three’s a crowd, four’s a trio
no type of chamber music is more ubiquitous to the baroque era than the instrumental trio sonata, a work for three parts (the harpsichord and cello play the same part) that balances slow with fast, soft with loud, cheerful with melancholy, and high with low. here, we join forces to present some of the wonderful music in this genre, which varies vastly, and we suspect you’ll wish that billie eilish wrote trio sonatas too.
